Life is a boomerang
You may have heard the concept of life as a boomerang, that in any area of life what you put in is what you get out.
Just like a boomerang, whatever you throw into your relationships, environments, or businesses, returns in equal force. In fact, a boomerang increases in speed and velocity on its return, so it comes back to you three times faster and stronger.
I’ve learned this big lesson: if I am not getting results, I need to determine what is preventing me from succeeding, from achieving my desired result.
With your health, for example, what you put in your body returns in how you feel. Eating well isn’t just about losing pounds, it is about energy, longevity and sustaining your health. If you eat a ton of junk food or go on a long night of drinking, how does that affect you the next day? You feel crappy, right?
The same is true with all areas of your life.
What’s the formula?
However, there isn’t a simple formula, like “work harder, get better results.” The issue is usually bigger than that.
We have to transform ourselves from the inside to be different.
For example, If you want more love from your partner, you might conclude “my partner is not loving me,” and try to change your partner. However, the only person you can change is yourself.
I invite you to consider this: if you want more love in your relationship, ask yourself, “how can I be more loving?” The power of the boomerang starts with you.
Another approach, when you notice something missing in your life, might be asking, “What is my part in this?” If a friend or family member is not communicating with me, I need to notice where I have not been communicative, then change my actions.
Your boomerang in business
Now let’s bring this into your business. Achieving the desired results in your business is equivalent to how much you’re putting into it.
Just buying a course or hiring a coach is not enough. How you do the program—how much you put in—from showing up on time for calls, to doing all the assignments, to taking the coaching, will determine your results. If you put in 50 percent effort, you’ll get 50 percent results.
If you want bigger results in your business, I invite you to look at it holistically. What you put into your health, relationships, and friendships all impact your business and vice versa.
I want you to consider some questions and take some actions that can boomerang in your favor.
~How much positive energy are you putting into your daily life and business?
Ways to increase positive energy
- Taking care of your health and fitness
- Deepening supportive relationships
- Operating from integrity in day-to-day activities, i.e., keeping deadlines, responding to communication, tracking your finances
- Making time for fun and rejuvenation
- Meditation for relaxation and grounding
~How much negative energy are you putting into your business and daily life?
Ways to decrease negative energy
- Notice and then stop complaining about or blaming others for your lack of results.
- Notice if you are clinging to any anger or resentment toward anyone in your life and resolve it (you may need extra support, such as therapy or a twelve-step program, for deeper blocks).
- Remove negative self-talk (e.g., saying mean things to yourself, putting yourself down) and replace with affirmations and empowering mantras.
- Spend less time with people who drain your energy, gossip, or do not support you feeling your best.
Be the boomerang
Since we aren’t perfect, remember to be kind to yourself whenever you are shifting something in your life. Taking responsibility can be very powerful, but you must have compassion for yourself, as well.
Small steps can offer big results, like picking one of the above actions to take tomorrow. Soon you’ll notice the shift.
