In this digital age, there are a lot of benefits to the conveniences of email. But nothing is more overwhelming than an overloaded inbox.

Have you ever missed an email because it was stacked inside a whole day of unread messages?

Do you have a habit of hoarding emails because you don’t know how to organize and keep the information inside of them?

Recently I got so busy with my business I noticed I started to slack on my emails in a major way. I had a whole bunch of ‘unread’ emails bolded that I self-selected as not important but still staring at me as abandoned ‘to-dos’.

There were many emails that had valuable information I did want to keep but I didn’t know where to put it. And there were many I hadn’t replied to in several days.

When my assistant asked me for the umpteenth time if I had seen her emails, I knew it had gotten bad!

Thinking Inside the Box

Although this is rare for me (I have developed a good habit of regularly keeping my inbox clean), I had to take quick action. I am not committed to being someone who falls behind in my communication or is unreliable in my responses.

In any business, having systems for organization is key to preventing overwhelm and keeping you on top of tasks. And your email inbox is one of the most important systems to maintain.

Most of us avoid cleaning out big piles of disorder because it just seems too large a task.

Whether it’s a file drawer or your email inbox, it can be done swiftly with the right tools. You just need to take it one piece at a time.

If this sounds like you …

… and you can relate to falling off the email bandwagon —

First, forgive yourself. We all get busy and have periods where we fall behind. We have to accept that this is part of life. The last thing you want to do is use your full inbox as ammo to beat yourself up!

Next, schedule a time to take some action. This is where I have you covered. Today, I’m sharing a video with you on EXACTLY how I went from 300 emails (yikes!) to less than 30 in less than an hour with some awesome (free) software tools.
