The #1 Golden Rule of Abundance
Confession: February was an off month for me. It seemed like it didn’t matter how hard I worked in my business, I felt like there was an invisible wall stopping me from bringing in my usual income.
Prospective clients disappeared, I got a lot of “No’s”, and my marketing was flopping. I’m not one of those coaches who will lie to you and tell you running my business is all roses and big bucks. I still have moments of struggle and last month was a hard one.
I don’t know what came first — feelings of a deep funk or the lackluster results — but I found myself unmotivated, cynical and…well, sad.
The Answer is Actually Simple
When things aren’t working in an area of our life our usual reaction is to keep focusing on that area of life. Put more effort into the business, find a new strategy, keep hustling.
Yes, nothing happens without action and YES you need a solid business strategy to generate consistent income. But when you feel like there is an invisible wall blocking all your ninja moves it is time to temporarily STOP focusing on your business.
I’m here to tell you to do the OPPOSITE of what your left brain tells you to do (“Work harder”). Turn on your “right brain”.
The answer is simple: FIND. YOUR. JOY.
Where Do You Find Your Joy?
I know, I know — if you’re a skeptic like me, you may already be dismissing this whole ‘law of attraction’ stuff. But let me share with you what I did that turned March into an abundant month in just a matter of weeks.
As I feared dropping more into a state of depression, I dove deep into the inquiry of what really makes me happy. As in, what has made me jump for joy when I think of it, especially as a kid.
Here is what came up: horses and singing/performing. I used to ride horses as kid and just feel so connected to these graceful animals. I also spent all my formative school years in annual musicals and singing in my A Capella group.
How could I reconnect to those?
I started to research horse farms near by and I found one to volunteer at (I start in a couple weeks!). And then I went on Meetup.com and searched ‘A Capella groups’. I joined a local San Diego ‘barber shop’ chorus (here’s the group singing).
What Does This Cost?
A lot of times when we think of what brings us joy we think we have to spend thousands of dollars on a vacation or luxury spa day. But when we remember what lit us up as kiddos, the things of joy cost us nothing. Like…
…The smell of hay and horse poop (yup).
…The heart opening that comes with singing in vibration with others.
Guess what happened this month? All of a sudden my marketing started to ‘miraculously’ work. A new client said ‘YES’. I had two clients share with me that they wanted to extend their coaching programs with me. And I sold an inherited RV after two months of headache after my father’s death.
I don’t know how it works but do you always need to know the HOW if it is working? Not me.
The Whole Story
I always say that business is holistic. If something is stifled in your business, you need to look at the WHOLE of your life, not just your business. Because how you do one thing is how you do everything.
I wasn’t emanating joy and confidence, so of course my business reflected that lack.
Are you down for an experiment? Just try looking at adding small pieces of joy back into your personal life. Think about what you absolutely loved to do when you were younger or the things you do now where you ‘lose time’ or feel more connected and loving.
Then commit to adding that to your weekly agenda and see what happens. I’m asking you to be open to another way.
It is your RIGHT to be happy. Happiness is also a choice (meaning, despite our circumstances, we can choose how we relate to what happens to us).
Choose JOY and see what shows up.
